Since few years ago I am learning digital and Visual Effects techniques amazed by it's possibilities and wishing to get a position into a VFX company.
The roll I like the most is called
Digital Matte Painting
and what I show here are some of the Matte Paintings I've done til now.
My very first Matte Painting. Done from a few photos that I took with my phone in Bristol.
This was all done with Photoshop, mixing a bench of techniques to blend textures and match perspective, light direction, grain etc. between every element that I added to the original plate in order to achieve a photorealistic "painting" that transformed the image without letting you know what is real and what's not.
Since Visual Effects purpose is to help and improve the storytelling of a visual story, the artists are not only to create or modify a background to reduce production costs, for impossibility or for safety reasons. The Matte Painter must implement all the techniques and knowledge available for the new background to be at a high aesthetic and cinematographic look level.
